Rooted in Mission, United for the Future

An Address from NCLD CEO Dr. Jacqueline Rodriguez

We find ourselves at a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. As 2025 unfolds, the transition to a new presidential administration brings uncertainty and renewed challenges to progress toward a society where unrestricted access and unlimited opportunity are within reach for all. Executive orders and policy shifts threaten to roll back hard-fought civil rights protections and proposals to dismantle critical institutions, such as the U.S. Department of Education, putting the future of public education–and the rights of students with disabilities at risk.

But amid these challenges, the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) remains steadfast in our mission. For nearly 50 years, we’ve stood alongside educators, students, families, and young adults to advance research and advocate for policies that break down systemic barriers in schools, workplaces, and communities. This moment is no different. In fact, our work has never been more urgent or more essential.

We’ve shared our new policy priorities, reflecting bold initiatives that support the neurodivergent and larger disability communities across education, workforce, and civil rights. At the heart of this work is our continued push for Congress to fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Public schools are not just a service, they’re a cornerstone of our democracy, and we are resolute in ensuring that every student can receive the high-quality public education they need to thrive.

As a civil rights organization, we remain committed to advancing the broader disability rights movement. Together with our partners, we are strengthening and expanding our advocacy to protect the rights of the disability community–not just within the classroom and workplaces but across every corner of society.

This important work would not be possible without the unwavering support of our community. I am deeply grateful to our constituency groups—Young Adult Leadership Council, Family Leadership Council, Professional Advisory Board, Board of Directors, grant funders, and the many supporters who help power our mission. And to our exceptional staff, thank you for your passion, creativity, and unwavering dedication—it is a privilege to lead this team.

As we move forward into 2025, I invite you to join us in championing a future where everyone has unrestricted access and unlimited opportunity.
