NCLD’s Commitment to Disability Rights and Equitable Policies

As our nation moves forward, the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) reaffirms its commitment to advancing the civil and disability rights, inclusion, and well-being of the learning disabled, neurodivergent, and broader disability communities. We remain steadfast in our efforts to hold policymakers accountable for protecting federal civil and disability rights for all individuals. Our mission—to partner with educators, students, families, and young adults to advance innovative research and advocate for equitable policies that address systemic barriers in schools, workplaces, and communities—remains at the forefront.

Federal law requires all students with disabilities to have a free and appropriate public education. For nearly 50 years, NCLD has been instrumental in leading significant policy changes, improving educational practices, and increasing awareness of the strengths and systemic barriers within the disability community. Our initiatives have reshaped outdated narratives about those with learning disabilities, empowering families and creating space for community. We are proud of our progress but recognize more must be done. Our vision of unrestricted access and unlimited opportunity continues to inspire and guide our programming and advocacy efforts.

Together, we will continue this charge, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their neurological profile or disability status, have the opportunity to thrive. We will continue collaborating with policymakers, educators, and allies to drive change in schools, the workplace, and beyond. Please take a moment to explore our brief on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a critical piece of legislation that ensures access to education for the over seven million public school students with disabilities. We look forward to unveiling our 2025-2027 policy agenda in the coming months, reflecting our ongoing commitment to advancing equitable policies.
