Disability Rights Leaders Meet with Education Secretary

Washington, D.C. —December 17, 2025— Members of the Consortium for Constituents with Disabilities Education Taskforce met with U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to discuss the future of federal programs that support students with disabilities, their families, and educators. We appreciated this opportunity for direct conversation to hear our concerns about the importance of federal oversight in education.

During the meeting, we raised specific questions about the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), and the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). While significant details remain unresolved, the discussion allowed us to clearly convey the critical role these offices play in protecting students’ rights and ensuring access to services, guidance, and, more importantly, oversight.

The disability community has a long-standing history of working across political lines to strengthen educational outcomes for students with disabilities. We remain committed to continued dialogue because families and educators deserve action that upholds federal law, reflects educational expertise, and does not weaken protections for students with disabilities.
