Lia Beatty, Disability Rights Advocate, Speaks Out on College Admissions Scandal

The college admissions cheating scandal is reverberating all across our country. Students with legitimate learning disabilities are feeling the pain more acutely than others. There is widespread fear that the manipulative actions of wealthy parents may jeopardize the ability of students with disabilities to gain access to needed accommodations in the future. NCLD is concerned that this scandal will only serve to increase the stigma around learning disabilities and cause testing companies and universities to tighten their policies and increase scrutiny of accommodation requests.
Now, more than ever, students with learning disabilities and their allies must continue to speak out and share their truth if we’re going to defeat stigma and ensure equal access for all students. Meet Lia Beatty, a college student and advocate who recently joined NCLD in Washington, DC for the #StandwithLD Day of Action. Here, she shares her perspective with ABC News.
