NCLD Stands in Solidarity to Support Asian-Americans

NCLD expresses our sincere condolences to the 8 victims and their families of the recent hate crimes carried out by a white supremacist in Atlanta against Asian-American women. This egregious violence serves as a stark reminder of the racism the Asian-American community has endured for centuries. This racism, misogyny, and violence has only accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic and must end.

NCLD stands in solidarity to support Asian-Americans and the broad Asian-American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. While Congress took an important step to raise awareness about these hateful and violent actions by holding a public hearing today, we urge policymakers to take swift action to uproot racist and sexist institutions and systems that continue to target the most vulnerable. We call on Congress to listen to AAPI leaders calling for investments in community-centered solutions and legislation intended to combat hate crimes and systemic racism.

We encourage the public to learn more from our coalition partners SEARAC, Asian-Americans Advancing Justice, and many more groups doing important work to end white supremacy and ensure a just, equitable, and inclusive society for all.
