The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) improves the lives of one in five who struggle with brain-based learning and attention issues. These include learning disabilities and attention disorders, related to reading, writing, math, organization and executive functioning. As the leading nonprofit organization for learning and attention issues, NCLD empowers parents and young adults, transforms schools and creates policy and advocacy impact.

Position Summary

The Research Manager will contribute to and manage research projects related to trends and issues among individuals with learning disabilities and attention issues. They will conduct literature reviews, write and edit reports, develop content, prepare presentations, visualize data, and manage various projects. They can clearly communicate special education subject-matter across contexts and departments. Project management duties include managing deliverable timelines, editing deliverables, and scheduling meetings with research partners. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of learning disabilities, keen attention to detail, strong writing skills, a collective work ethic, and a passion for advocacy. They will work collaboratively with the NCLD team and the field to ensure accuracy of content and deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the research department with writing and editing white papers, reports, blog posts, and other publications, on a range of topics related to trends and issues with learning disabilities.
  • Contribute to NCLD’s State of Learning Disabilities content development including writing, organizing supporting content, scheduling expert interviews, preparing presentations, supporting digital content development, etc.
  • Support research agenda and strategic goals with literature reviews.
  • Engage research experts to ensure NCLD’s content is innovative and accurate.
  • Manage research timelines and deliverables.
  • Manage in-person meeting logistics.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in special education or a related field
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues for individuals with learning disabilities and attention issues
  • Commitment to the values of diversity, inclusivity, and empowerment
  • Willingness to learn, think outside the box, and challenge the status quo

  • Passionate about closing the research to practice gap and improving outcomes for individuals with learning disabilities

COVID-19 Considerations

This position is temporarily remote, though candidates outside of the DC area will be considered.


This position will require some travel depending on COVID-19 and public health recommendations for travel.

Salary Range

Salary range: $60k–$70k depending on experience.
