Mark Griffin

Mark Griffin, Ph.D., is a member of NCLD’s Governance and Innovation Committees and serves on the Executive Committee. He has been a professional in the field of learning disabilities for over 40 years. He was the founding headmaster of Eagle Hill School, a boarding and day school for children with specific learning disabilities in Greenwich, Connecticut, from 1975–2009. He is currently an independent educational consultant.

Griffin is a member of the executive committee, board of directors and professional advisory board of the National Center for Learning Disabilities. He is also a member of the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities and is a former member of the board of directors and executive committee of the Learning Disabilities Association of America.

Griffin holds a B.A. in psychology from Merrimack College, an M.Ed. in special education and guidance from Worcester State College, an M.S. in psychology from Assumption College, and a Ph.D. in psychology from Fordham University. He consults with foundations, parents and independent and public schools concerning various aspects of learning disabilities, school management and appropriate programming strategies for children with learning disabilities and attention issues.

Complicating My LD Narrative

Then I was diagnosed with an LD (learning disability) at 10 years old. Through my mom’s persistence in getting me a neuropsychological evaluation, I found out that I was struggling in school because I had serious deficits in executive functioning, working memory, and auditory processing. On the other hand, I also discovered that I had a number of strengths, including advanced verbal skills and a near perfect visual memory.
