NCLD Statement on the House Appropriations LHHS-Education FY 2020 Committee Vote

Washington, DC – The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) is pleased that the House Appropriations LHHS-Education Committee voted to move the Fiscal Year 2020 appropriations bill to the full House of Representatives for consideration. We welcome the increased investment in education and know that students, teachers, and parents are depending on our legislators to make this dream a reality. As teacher appreciation week concludes, we can think of few better ways to show our gratitude than providing an infusion of much-needed resources.

Additionally, we want to thank Chairwomen Nita Lowey (D-NY-17) and Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) for their leadership and urge Congress to pass this legislation so that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential despite their disability, race, or zip code.

Moving forward, we recognize the proposed increases have a difficult road ahead in the Senate, however, we are happy to carry on our advocacy from this vantage point. We will continue to monitor the FY 2020 LHHS-Education Appropriations bill and work with legislators, on both sides of the aisle, to ensure students with learning and attention issues have access to the resources they need to be successful.
