Saashya Rodrigo, Ph.D.

Principal Researcher

Dr. Saashya Rodrigo is the Principal Researcher at the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD). Saashya has extensive experience as an education researcher, family and teacher consultant, and classroom teacher. Her professional interests include teacher stress and turnover, special education assessment and instruction, and education equity and accessibility.

Saashya received her Ph.D. in Learning Disabilities and Behavioral Disabilities from the University of Texas at Austin. During her doctoral studies, she worked on several federally funded research studies in the areas of reading, mathematics, and behavioral sciences. Prior to her doctoral studies, Saashya was a teacher in Atlanta, Georgia, where she also received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Special Education from Georgia State University.

Saashya strongly believes that data and the dissemination of quality research findings have the potential to positively impact learning, teaching, and organizational outcomes. She is passionate about working as a team, collaborating with education stakeholders, and making data-based decisions in order to support improvement efforts that are practical, equitable, and student- and teacher-focused.

Saashya was born and raised in the island nation of Sri Lanka. She is an avid concert-goer, fitness enthusiast, lover of the outdoors, foodie, and a not-always-successful but very determined gardener. She currently resides in Austin, Texas, with her husband and their three fur-babies: Colombo, Fat Lizzy, and Jasper.
