The Pete & Carrie Rozelle Award is given to a school or school-related program that addresses the educational and social/emotional needs of all children, including those with learning disabilities. This $5,000 award will allow for expanded programmatic and staff development opportunities that focus on incorporating effective research-based practices into classroom and school-wide practice. Preference is given to programs that serve underprivileged and under- served communities, or programs that have demonstrated unique impact for students with LD.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Nominees for this award can be made by NCLD staff, members of the NCLD Awards Committee, Professional Advisory Board, Board of Directors, through general outreach via the Web, conference mailings and assorted media outlets.
The ideal candidate for this nomination is a school or school-related program that is committed to excellence in education for all students, including those with learning disabilities, and has demonstrated:
- Unique opportunities for students and their families
- Careful decisions about curricula and support
- Staff development and ongoing attention to self-improvement to enhance accountability and opportunities for professional growth
Only schools that have met Annual Yearly Progress goals will be considered.
Submission process
Schools and/or programs applying for this award must submit a completed application that can be downloaded (available in Summer 2009)
Selection process
The NCLD Awards Committee will review all applications and present its recommendation to NCLD's Executive Director.
Award presentation
The award will be announced at NCLD's Annual Benefit Dinner. A representative of the school/program will be invited to attend and accept the award.
Award benefits and obligations
- A $5,000 cash award, to be invested in ways that help incorporate effective research-based practices into classroom and school-wide practice.
- Feature school efforts and accomplishments in NCLD communications vehicles and through media opportunities
- Gift certificates and outstanding educational products from leading companies including Brookes Publishing, Sopris West Educational Services, and Kurzweil Educational Systems.
