Associate Executive Director, Programs

Susan Petroff is the Associate Executive Director of Programs for the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD), overseeing program development and implementation as well as online communications to support all parents and teachers of children who struggle to learn, especially those with learning disabilities.
While at NCLD, Ms. Petroff has lead the development and implementation of a national effort that included the establishment of regional centers in Georgia and Arizona to deliver early literacy services to support young children who may be at risk for learning disabilities, and to promote children’s successful transition to kindergarten. She recently led the research and development phase of the NCLD’s Response to Intervention initiative and has been instrumental in conceiving new products for publication. Under her leadership, NCLD has expanded dramatically its Web-based services and seen unprecedented growth in Web traffic to its Web sites.
Prior to joining NCLD, Ms. Petroff was Partner Relations Director for Reading Rockets, a national literacy initiative that provides information and resources to parents and educators of struggling readers. She was the first Executive Director of RIFNet, the distance learning network for Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), where she led the creation and launch of the professional development service for the half million parent and teacher volunteers who support local RIF sites across the country.
At the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Ms. Petroff served as deputy director of Ready to Learn and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Ready To Learn grant including local public television station grants, a free book program, children’s television programming, a national bilingual publication for families, and the annual education seminar. At PBS, she was a key member of the three-person team that developed and launched the Ready to Learn service.
Prior to her work with Ready to Learn, Ms. Petroff held several positions at PBS including vice president of marketing and advertising, as well as positions at public television stations WNET/New York City and WGBY/Springfield, Massachusetts. She is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. Ms. Petroff serves on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Ready to Learn Advisory Board and the PBS Kids Next Generation Media Advisory Board.
